Brits write and speak in code – very little can be understood at face value; or can it? (See what I did there? You just don’t know.) Meaning is often obscured, so you have to read between the lines of what has actually been written or said in order to fully understand. If you don’t know the code, if you don’t know the rules, it can be very frustrating.
How do you complain in Britain in order to get someone to do something? How do you express excitement in a country where excitement isn’t something you express? What is meant when someone describes your idea as ‘interesting’? Deciphering what the code is is key to communicating effectively in Britain. This course will help you crack the code, so you will be able to express yourself and be understood in the British manner.
The course will cover: The rules of communicating with Brits; Making requests and dealing with requests; How to give feedback and how to interpret it; How to complain. Along the way we will discuss the things that perplex you and practise practical ways to work and play with Brits everyday.
