1.    What is Chemistry?
You might think of chemistry only in the context of lab tests, food additives or dangerous substances, but the field of chemistry involves everything around us. What is “everything”?

·      Real-world examples.

·      Lab facilities and Equipment.

·      Safety.

2.    Food in Chemistry
Our aim to understand food from a scientific perspective. We will look closer at the manner in which food is made, and why it is done that way. Pick your favourite food, and we will analyse it together.

·      Food Manufacturing, e.g. food smells and colouring, etc.

·      Food Preservation. Poison-free.

·      Chemistry of Chocolate, Coffee and Popcorn.

3.    Medicine in Chemistry

Have you heard of pharmaceutical companies like AstraZeneca or Pfizer? During this course we will gain basic knowledge of the vital concepts, techniques and applications of pharmaceutical products and drugs.  

·      Bioavailability of drugs.

·      Cold Medicine.

·      Chemotherapy drugs.

4.    Maths/Physics in Chemistry

How about if we use maths and physics to study chemical systems? We will look at concepts like motion, energy, force, time, thermodynamics, and quantum chemistry, to release the hardcore chemist in you!

·      Redox Reactions and their colour changes.

·      Atmospheric Chemistry.

·      Chemistry of Teflon and Air Conditioning.
